Evesham Utd 0, Chippenham Tn 6
PHIL Mullen's imposed view from the stand turned into a horror show as his side slumped to their heaviest defeat of the season, writes Mick Clewes.
The United chief, forced to watch away from the dugout after an FA ruling, could only look on in disbelief as he saw his team outpaced and outplayed by a slick Chippenham side.
Despite having won the earlier meeting between the two sides Evesham were never at the races and struggled throughout to cope with a pacy Town attack which included a thoroughbred in top scorer Steve Tweddle who obliged with two of the goals.
Fellow striker Matt Rawlings also weighed in with a brace and strikes from James Bent and John Woods completed the goal tally.
Roared on by a large away following, Chippen-ham were two goals up at the interval after a first half in which Evesham competed well but failed to get the breaks.
Indeed it could be said that Town's opener came against the run of play following a spell of Robins' pressure which saw skipper Steve McCartan go close on a couple of occasions.
Without the injured Jay Powell the United defence was exposed far too often by the pace of Chippenham's attack. Tweddle and Rawlings gave the visitors the interval lead before the second half horror show unfolded.
Home goalkeeper Danny Watson had a five- minute spell he will want to forget when, after Clifton was penalised for holding Tweddle he brilliantly saved the Chippenham striker's spot-kick only to see him follow up to score.
Then after 52 minutes Watson tried to clear a harmless back pass but succeeded only in slicing the ball straight into the path of Bent who slotted home.
McCartan added to the tale of woe when his 64th minute penalty was saved and, despite a double substitution which saw Scott Mullen and Dean Roberts replace James Brown and Andy Hodgetts, Chippenham completed the rout and emphatic revenge for their earlier Western Division loss on a day when the top trio all recorded 6-0 home wins!
