A GREAT village day-long party will be held for Broadway residents to celebrate the Queen's golden jubilee.

It is all happening on the village green, with a fete on the morning of Monday, June 3, followed by dancing, singing and other fun entertainment in the afternoon and evening.

Dottie Friedli, who is organising the traders' extravaganza later in the day, said: "Broadway traders held a very successful midsummer celebration this year following the awful foot and mouth crisis.

"Next year we are happy to combine another one with the jubilee celebrations.

"Like last year, we will be booking magicians and bands for live entertainment but, because I have got much more time to plan it, we will be hoping to involve more village people and schoolchildren to take part in the entertainment."

Dottie's events will be preceded by St Michael's church fete, in the morning, with all the typical homemade cake, bric-a-brac, flower stalls and activities to enjoy.

Last Thursday, parish councillors discussed the possibility of enhancing the entrance to the village with a permanent memento to mark the occasion.

The idea put forward was for a small Cotswold stone wall inscribed with the words: "Welcome to Broadway," in English and also in different languages.

The exact position has not been finalised but would probably be at the Fish Hill end of the village.

If the county council and the district council supported the plans cash, it was hoped, would come from Wychavon's visitor management budget.
