AS a woman currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer at Worcester Hospital, I feel I must respond to your headline article "Cancer Women Forced to Wait" (Evening News, Monday, December 3).
I agree that a two-week waiting period is the minimum amount of time anyone should have to wait to receive a diagnosis and, indeed, this was the case for me.
Words cannot describe the mental torture one goes through at this time and I would not wish it on my worst enemy!
However, my reason for writing is to commend the team of staff at Worcester.
They offer a wonderful service and do everything in their power to support and guide you through this time and any other treatment.
On reflection now, I see that I used this period to come to terms with my illness, rather than be thrown in at the deep end, as happens on the Continent.
We're very lucky to have a dedicated and hard-working group of people at Worcester, the oncology team are fantastic.
And, as the unit's small, it's possible to be an individual and not just a number as so often happens in larger hospitals.
I cannot fault the quality of care I have received at any point in my treatment and anyone who finds themselves in these people's hands in the future should take heart, and feel reassured that they will be very well taken care of.
J JEFFERY, Malvern.
