THREE senior crews from the Evesham club travelled to Wallingford last weekend for a Head Race over 4000 metres.

With the River Thames swollen following heavy rain, they faced a challenging row upstream against strong competition from Univ-ersities and London based clubs.

Evesham's best result was undoubtedly the Women's Novice coxed four comprising Rosie Buckley, Clare Yates, Katherine Scott and Holly Carter, coxed by Tom Matthews who beat eight other crews to win in a time of 21.36.

Keith Rafter's men's coxed four of Ewan Baird, Dimitrij Phoursa, Alex Gre-gory and Tom Dyson, coxed by Chris Lam-bourne, competed in both morning and afternoon divisions, finishing sixth in Senior II and an excellent second in Senior III.

University students Hannah Buckley, Maxine Emes and Emma Dyson were joined by Crystal MacLeod, coxed by Tom Matthews in a Women's' Senior II coxed four who looked very good, finishing fifth on only the second occasion of rowing together.

Neil Staite travels to Boston again this weekend for the second national squad trials in a bid to once more gain selection to represent Great Britain internationally next season.

That will be a fitting conclusion to an outstanding year of competition for the club, who look forward to another successful year in 2002.
