A KUNG-FU student is eyeing Olympic glory after success in a major event.
Tommy Walker, who trains with the Worcester-based Lions Claw King Fu School, fought in the San Shou National Hardcore Event in London and scored an excellent victory.
As a result of his fight, Tommy, from Bromsgrove, will now train with the British Council for Chinese Martial Arts with a view to competing in the next Olympics where San Shou will be an event, and may also consider fighting on the professional circuit.
San Shou is fought on a raised platform with two opponents. It incorporates all Martial Arts Kung Fu, karate, Tae-Kwon-Do, judo, ju-jitsu, boxing, grappling etc., The object of the fight is to knockout the opponent or remove from the platform, - or win on points. It is a 'full contact' fight which can be very brutal, all contestants are very brave.
Tommy was the club's first fighter to take part in one of these events, and as the club has now been invited to enter a team at the next event. The club is actively looking for sponsorship for him, anyone interested please get in touch.
Lion's Claw Kung Fu meet at Christopher Whitehead High School, Worcester on Thursdays from 7-9pm. A new Junior section begins in Januarys for 10-15-year-olds, from 6-7pm on Thursdays.
