MALVERN Hills District Brass Band is joining forces with the Chase A Cappella Choir and mezzo-soprano Jose-phine Williamson for a concert of seasonal music at the Huntingdon Hall, Worcester, tomorrow (Saturday) at 7.30pm.

The programme inclu-des carols and spirituals, Christmas songs, and classic songs from the shows and other well-known tunes.

The band is donating takings to the Worcestershire Macmillan Appeal. Over the last few years, it has managed to raise nearly £5,000 for various charities through its Huntingdon Hall concerts and playing carols in the Malvern, Worcester and Pershore area.

The band has been part of the community since 1978, and has become well-known for its concerts locally.

Last year, it appeared at the Royal Albert Hall in London, when it came sixth in the finals of the National Brass Band Championships, fourth division.

Other notable venues in recent years have included the Three Counties Showground, Greenwich Park in London and Jaguar's Research and Development facilities in Coventry.

Spokesman Adrian White said: "The band exists not only to entertain but to further the enjoyment of brass band music for all providing an opportunity for players of all abilities to play together. We actively encourage new members, particularly youngsters, to join us where they can enjoy and improve their musical skills."

The Chase A Cappella Choir was formed two years ago and has so far performed in Symphony Hall, Birmingham, St David's Hall, Cardiff and many other venues locally, as well as touring Germany. Its repertoire ranges from Britten to the Beach Boys.

Josephine Williamson studied voice at the Birmingham Conservatoire with Pamela Cook, then with Sir Geraint Evans. She has also performed the title role in Carmen and in other well-known operas, and is an experienced oratorio performer. At the concert, she is accompanied on the piano by Geoff Kerr.
