TWO men fought outside the Euphoria nightclub in Bromsgrove after they had traded insults earlier in the evening, Worcester Crown Court heard.

Daniel Pitt rugby-tackled Simon Lawther but continued attacking him when he was on the ground, said Lee Marklew, prosecuting.

He head-butted him three or four times, fracturing his cheekbone and causing an injury which still gives him pain more than a year later.

Pitt, aged 22, of Lincoln Road, Bromsgrove, was jailed for 21 months after admitting causing grievous bodily harm.

The pair met inside the club on September 22 last year and there was a scuffle after remarks had been passed about a girl. Mr Lawther was ordered out of the premises but instead of going home, lay in wait for Pitt, said Mr Marklew.

In the violent confrontation which followed, Mr Lawther received head injuries which resulted in prolonged hospital treatment.

Mr Marklew said his broken cheekbone had been repaired with screws and a plate, but a nerve still gave him persistent pain and this may be permanent.

Mr Lawrence Watts, defending, claimed that Mr Lawther had behaved in a "boorish and loutish" manner inside the club, making offensive remarks.

It was also claimed Pitt had been bullied since he was 17 and there was a degree of provocation before the fight started. Pitt accepted that he had gone too far in the attack.

Judge Michael Mott said witnesses made it clear that Pitt was only too glad to accept the challenge of a fight outside the club. There had been provocation from a man who had behaved badly, but in the end the exacting of revenge had led to serious injury.
