MALVERN Squash Club Seconds fought back from 2-0 down against visiting Altered Images last week but were denied victory in the deciding match.

MALVERN SECONDS 2, ALTERED IMAGES 3

Defeats for Meirion Jones and Nik Farrar put the home side on the back foot but the two very different but equally impressive performances which followed brought renewed hope.

Mark Read, though obviously short of serious match practice, won the longest match of the evening as a result of his determined retrieving, then Hugh Webber brought the team scores level with the best squash he has played all season.

His opponent, Dave Bullen, used all his speed to keep Hugh at full stretch but from the start of the second game there was only going to be one winner.

Although the play was sprinkled with enough errors to give Dave some hope, Hugh was ruthlessly efficient when given high ball to kill and levelled the match with an admirable 3-0 win.

In the deciding match at number one Malvern's Tim Cossali-Francis found Simon Harrod too fast and too accurate and by the end of the third game he had been run to exhaustion with little to show for his effort.

RESULTS: Tim Cossali-Francis lost to Simon Harrod 6-9, 1-9, 4-9; Hugh Webber bt Dave Bullen 10-8, 9-4, 10-8; Mark Read bt Paul Ormerod 9-1, 9-6, 1-9, 4-9, 9-4; Nik Farrar lost to Stewart Franklin 4-9, 4-9, 7-9; Meirion Jones lost to John Boardman 8-10, 3-9, 7-9.
