ON a wet and windy morning Malvern Junior Hockey Club travelled to Droitwich for a tournament.
The first match was against Stourport. Malvern started well, an early goal by Joe Forsyth from a quickly taken free hit by Richard Tuck took Malvern into the lead. This shocked Stourport into a fast counter attack. Despite several brilliant saves from Malvern's athletic goal keeper Cain Burge, Stourport eventually won 4-1.
In contrast Malvern's second game against Droitwich gave Malvern's goal keeper little opportunity to demonstrate his skills. A well earned hat trick from Matt Carr, a superb hard-hit goal from Richard Tuck and a well crafted goal by Laura Macleod brought the final score to 5-0.
The third match against Bromsgrove was another straight forward victory for Malvern with goals coming from Richard Tuck, Laura Macleod and Matt Carr. The score was 4-0.
Malvern then faced Stourport in the final, where solid defending from David Keaviney-Sheath and Emma Spicer, who had defended well throughout the tournament, enabled Malvern to take an early lead.
Stourport came back to equalise and in a tense and tightly fought final, having taken the lead twice with goals from Richard Tuck and Mat Carr, Malvern kept on battling but were unlucky to concede a late goal. The final score was 3-2 to Stourport.
