Worcester City Council is urging residents not to obstruct access for refuse vehicles over the festive period.

The warning comes after collection dates have been changed over the Christmas holidays to work around the Bank Holiday.

Because the revised dates fall on two consecutive Saturdays over the yuletide period, the city council fears illegal parking could cause disruption .

"The revised collection dates fall on two consecutive Saturdays over the Christmas period," said Dilwyn Price, operations manager at Worcester City Council.

"These are busy days for shoppers and people often park their cars illegally in narrow Victorian streets, causing disruption not only to residents but also to emergency and refuse vehicles.

"We urge residents and shoppers to park sensibly and legally in order to allow the council to collect refuse."

The following streets in the Arboretum area have been highlighted by the city council to take care when it comes to parking: Chestnut Street, Lower Chestnut Street, Little Chestnut Street, Northfield Street, Southfield Street, Barry Street, Middle Street, East Street and Arboretum Road.

Refuse collection in the Arboretum area falls on a Thursday but this year the revised collection dates will be falling on Saturday, December 29 and Saturday, January 5.
