IN response to the letter headlined "Hunting Most Humane Method" which appeared in your paper on Monday, December 3, I wish to make the following points.
There are more than 15,000 veterinary surgeons in the UK, yet despite all the many efforts of the Countryside Alliance to rally support for hunting (the poll only being one of many) less than 300 (two per cent) came forward to be included in the Vets for Hunting group. One could conclude that 98 per cent did not believe it is a humane method.
My husband is a veterinary surgeon and I know that the majority of our veterinary colleges and all our veterinary friends believe hunting with hounds inflicts unnecessary pain and suffering on the hunted animal.
It is sad that people with excellent degrees should be prepared to write inaccurate propaganda simply because they don't care about animal welfare.
They have not presented one argument based on fact or accuracy. What a let down these people are to an honourable profession.
SUZANNE CAMPBELL,
Wenvoe, Cardiff.
