Harriers continued to push forward and forced another corner on the Exeter right flank.
Keeper Van Heusden collected the ball at his near post after Stamps had headed Appleby's flag-kick goalswards on 26 minutes.
And the threatening visitors at last took the lead on 31 minutes through Bennett's fifth goal in as many league games.
It was also the first goal Exeter had conceded in 481 minutes.
Appleby laid a perfect ball into the path of Bennett who ran on and stroked a confident finish into the corner of the net from 12 yards. Dean Bennett
Henriksen should have made it two on 39 minutes putting a free header wide after Clarkson's excellent cross.
Minutes before half-time Exeter's Flack also nodded wide, this time from a good ball into the box by Roscoe.
