A CONVICTED paedophile is working among dozens of girls each week in Worcester, relatives of one of his victims claim.

The man was convicted of four indecent assaults on young girls in 1999, and news of his job has outraged the families concerned.

The brother of one of his victims has been prompted to speak out in light of the Sarah Payne case.

"He should not be working in the environment he is, where there are a lot of young girls around," said the man, who cannot be named to protect the victim's identity.

"The community and his employers should know what kind of man he is, to protect other girls - what's to stop him doing it again?"

He said his sister was still recovering from her ordeal and was mentally scarred.

Her attacker, who lived in the city at the time of the offences, was sentenced to a year in prison in March, 1999, after admitting one indecent assault on a girl under 16, and three on girls under 14 between December 1, 1990, and October 1, 1996.

One victim waived her right to anonymity after he was jailed, because she was appalled at the "leniency" shown him.

The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed the sentencing at Worcester Crown Court and said his name had been placed on the Sex Offenders Register.

A West Mercia police spokesman said it would not confirm details about the man.

"It is not our policy to routinely disclose or confirm details of those on the register or any addresses," he said.

The Evening News has not revealed the man's identity, in line with West Mercia police policy which advises against the publication of information which might make it difficult for officers to keep track of offenders.

Roy Whiting, who had previously served a prison sentence for abducting and sexually assaulting a schoolgirl, was convicted of Sarah Payne's murder last week.

Sarah's mother and father are campaigning for parents to be made aware of any paedophiles in their area as they believe families should be able to protect their children from convicted sex attackers.
