A WORCESTER man wants to see alterations to a city stretch of road as a move to prevent future accidents.
Gordon Smith claims most of the crashes which have happened on the Worcester side of the A449 Ombersley Road at the Claines roundabout could have been prevented.
Now he is calling on someone to accept responsibility for the road and reduce the risk of future accidents.
"There's been about five accidents this year," said Mr Smith, who lives on the Ombersley Road.
"There was one last week where a car hit a tree.
"It just missed a lamp-post that was knocked down a few months ago.
"There was a big artic that also went off the road.
"Do we have to wait until someone is killed?"
On Friday, December 7, firefighters had to cut free the driver of a car which had hit a tree. Three other passengers were also injured.
A lorry driver also had a lucky escape when his articulated lorry crashed into a field on Saturday, September 29.
A lamp-post was ripped out of the ground and GPU engineers were called to make the area safe.
In March, another driver crashed into a lamp-post.
"Worcestershire County Council has said it's not their responsibility," said Mr Smith, who uses the road to visit Claines Parish Church where he works.
"When the link was built the Highways Agency put a bend in the road which makes it a bit dangerous.
"I'd like something done about it.
"The road should be straightened, it should reduce all these accidents.
"It causes enough anxiety and injury."
Worcester City Council's branch of the Highways Partnership Unit said it was looking into ways of reducing accidents.
"We have someone looking at the various accidents to see what needs to be done," said Andy Walford, principal engineer.
"If we straighten the road we run the risk of people running off the road at the roundabout or another location.
"We're trying to find out why people are misreading the road and if there's more we can do."
