HIP-HOP, techno and trance are just some of the DJ sounds hitting the decks for the first ever Three Counties DJ Academy showcase.

Three Counties DJ Academy is a new course at The Arts Workshop, Worcester, and students from it have been gearing up to promote, organise and DJ at the event tonight.

Six DJs from the course, one of the relatively few in the country, will be spinning various stomping styles of music such as drum and bass, and hard house.

The night, called Cross Sexion, is being held at Club Evolution in Lowesmoor and runs from 9.30pm till 2am.

Jason Green, whose stage name is DJ Keen, is one of the DJs playing tonight.

I was given a flyer in the street about the course then went to an open day, says Jason who has been a DJ for 10 years. I enrolled there and then.

The course ran for the first time in September at The Arts Workshop on City Walls Road, and lasted for a period of 10 weeks, one night a week.

Tutors Andy King, Colin Candy and DJ Tanz taught students, whose ages ranged from 18 to 37.

It was an excellent insight into the industry, says Jason who lives in Broadwas.

I've been into progressive house for a while.

In the past I've done stuff such as mobile discos but I did this course to get into night-club DJing and promoting night-clubs.

People of different DJing abilities joined the course

DJing isn't about being a musician, it's more a rhythm thing".

People on the course who are not DJs tonight have been involved in promoting the event.

Leon Marks, another DJ who attended the course, is also playing at Club Evolution tonight.

Leon, who's stage name is General Lee, says he joined the course because he wanted to learn more about DJing after playing at various Birmingham bars.

I play aggressive trance to hard house, but since I joined the course I've got into break-beats and hip-hop, says the 21-year-old.

The course has helped me advance my scratching and I'm really chuffed with that.

I've learnt a few good tips such as brushing up on mixing skills.

I hope the showcase goes well and we can expand it to Birmingham.

Admission for the DJ Academy Showcase is £4 with a flyer or valid NUS card, or £5 without.
