ASTON Villa manager John Gregory praised his players for shrugging off the effect of off-the-field politics as two goals from Juan Pablo Angel earned them a 2-1 home success over Ipswich last night.
Gregory has been again frustrated by the reluctance of the Villa board of directors to make money available for new players and he admitted recently that he may consider selling Angel to finance new blood.
Then there was a muted demonstration from supporters before last night's game, with the words "Ellis Out" held up -- a reference to Villa chairman Doug Ellis, who has been accused of being slow to loosen the purse strings.
However, Villa came from behind to end a run of seven matches without a victory and put themselves back in contention for a Champions League spot.
Gregory said: "Off-the-field politics is part of life here. It rears its head from time to time. It does work its way into the dressing room. Players know what is going on at this club."
