ELDERLY and disabled folk in the Spa tucked into delicious Yuletide dinners thanks to kind town fundraisers.

Roast Turkey with all the trimmings was served to 60 residents by Meals on Wheels last Wednesday.

The town's Round Table group stumped up cash for the festive feast and Droitwich Spa Ladies Circle baked tasty mince pies for the service users.

Expert cooks at the Spa's Meals on Wheel headquarters in the Herriots, off Worcester Road, prepared the hot dishes and caring volunteers dashed around the town to ensure everyone enjoyed piping hot food.

Branch joint co-ordinator Alwyn Panton, of Oakland Avenue, greatly appreciates the annual donation by the Round Table.

He told the Advertiser: "It's a fantastic gesture and our customers love their Christmas meal."

The organisation users deliver 150 hot lunches in Droitwich Spa and surrounding villages five days per week.

Often volunteers are the only faces users see all day and their visit maybe the highlight of hours spent alone at home.

The branch is currently desperate for volunteers.

Alwyn added: "Just a couple of hours a month would be a great boost.

"People from all walks of life help us and I would like to remind readers that it's not just women who volunteer, men are just as welcome."

The organisation was founded by the Women's Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS) and the town service is believed to have launched around 40 years ago.

Originally, food was prepared at an old chapel hall in Ricketts Lane, then the service moved to Norbury House until it relocated at the Herriots sheltered housing complex.

Funds are generated mainly through donations and Government cash.
