OVER the past week or so, we have heard from Worcester Rugby Club a certain amount of over reaction to the admittedly oafish comments from one or two spectators at home matches.

The reality is that over the last few years, the club has been vociferously and enthusiastically supported by a reasonably large following which compares favourably with attendances at Worcestershire County Cricket Club, Worcester City Football Club, the Racecourse and other sporting events in and around the City and County. Methinks the club doth protest too much!

The fact is that the displays by the team so far this season have not been good enough to justify pretensions of Championship winners. The truth is that, in this division. there are haves and have-nots. Thanks to the wonderful commitment and generosity of Mr Duckworth, we are at present one of the "haves".

There are, at most, four teams who could hope to win the title and of these, Coventry may have to wait until next year to demonstrate their potential consistently.

Although Worcester's playing record appears, on the face of it, to be good (only two defeats in the League) the inability to accumulate bonus points means that they are slipping back rather than applying pressure on their immediate rivals.

However, I will continue to support the team and Worcester City FC and wish both as much success as possible. But, come on management and players, do not blame the fans, even the odd stupid minority, if frustrations are expressed from time to time.

And to all the fans, let's get behind the team and give them even more encouragement to fulfil their potential and to achieve that "huge improvement" that is needed to succeed.

LAURIE GREEN,

Kempsey.
