A BURGLAR forced his way into a house in Worcester and stole a Sony PlayStation and various games valued at just under £1,000.
Police said the raider gained access to the home in Crown Street via a side alleyway. He then used a ladder and a spade in the back garden to force his way into the property.
His haul consisted of the PlayStation, valued at £199, and games valued at £710.
"Most break-ins occur where and when the burglar thinks no one will notice," said PC Andy Simkins, of Worcester police.
"During the dark evenings, consider using time switches to turn on lights and radios. House with lights on looks less attractive to a burglar. Other deterrents include fitting strong, high gates across side and rear passages and never leave garden tools lying around."
He added that copies of Your Practical Guide To Crime Prevention is available free from local police stations.
