A POLICE officer dislocated his finger as he tried to arrest a drink-driver on a Worcester road.
Martin Berrow tried to jump over a gate to escape police who had stopped his car.
Droitwich magistrates heard the 20-year-old from Malvern was spotted by a police patrol on Thursday, November 8.
"It was around 12.50am," said Owen Beale, prosecuting.
"They heard a vehicle travelling along the Tolladine Road. It seemed to them to be going too fast.
"They pulled the car over and the defendant got out and started to walk away.
"The officers shouted 'hang on a minute', but he ran towards a block of flats.
"He tried to jump over the gate but he fell."
The court heard that Berrow, of Elgar Avenue, Malvern, was aggressive to the two officers.
He was swaying and thought to be unfit to drive.
"He was handcuffed and wouldn't co-operate," said Mr Beale.
"He kneed the WPC in the ribs causing her immediate pain and then struggled with the PC.
"He was holding on to the defendant's clothing who then pulled away with such force that his finger was dislocated."
Berrow was taken to Worcester police station and was found to have 71mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35.
Berrow admitted driving with excess alcohol, assaulting a police officer and resisting a police officer.
"Throughout the interview with police he was apologetic," said Brian O'Connell, defending.
"He has no recollection of hurting the WPC but accepts she would have been hurt.
"He doesn't remember the struggle. He fully admits what he can remember and that includes running off."
Magistrates adjourned the hearing for pre-sentence reports on Monday, January 21.
