CRIMINALS are being sent a festive message through the post - from West Mercia police.

Officers in Bromsgrove are spreading yuletide cheer throughout the community, with known crooks at the top of their Christmas card list.

They are sending cards to "known individuals" across the area who have been involved with crime, reminding them they are still in the thoughts of the local constabulary.

"At this time of year, everyone is sending Christmas cards to their friends and associates, and we thought we'd let those people who are intent on committing crime know we're thinking of them over the Christmas period," said Det Chief Insp Steve Walters.

"This time of year can be very tempting for thieves and it's important we prevent making ourselves vulnerable by taking simple crime prevention steps such as keeping gifts out of view, whether that be in the car or the house.

"Hopefully, reminding people that we're thinking of them at this time of year will act as an effective deterrent.

"Christmas is also a time when some people drink more than usual and this can sometimes result in an increase in violent behaviour.

''We are hoping that this card will have a sobering effect on these people as well.

"The cards are being sent out this week and will read 'Thinking of you at this time of year'."
