HEREFORDSHIRE Council says it is currently working with travellers camped on land near Leominster to find them a suitable temporary home.
But council leaders have said the offer will only go ahead if those travellers currently camped at Barrons Cross agree to a legally-binding undertaking governing their future behaviour.
The council says it hopes the travellers will leave Barrons Cross by the end of the week and move on to a former travellers site near Madley in time for Christmas.
It has promised it will put in place 24-hour security around the site.
"This isn't an ideal solution, but we're doing all we can to try and find these travellers a temporary home in time for Christmas," said Andy Tector, Herefordshire Council's head of Environmental Health and Trading Standards.
"Their destiny is in their own hands. We'll only provide this site for them if they agree to a legally binding agreement concerning their future behaviour.
"If they break this undertaking, they will be evicted from the county."
