THREE precious points slipped away from Chaddesley Corbett as they lost 2-1 at Lye Town Reserves in West Midlands League South Division One.

Lye, protecting an unbeaten eight-match run, found Chaddesley a difficult team to beat.

The visitors, who brought in striker Ian Vogel after a 12-month absence from first team duties, played some entertaining football.

They thought they had taken the lead when Vogel's effort appeared to cross the line.

The follow-up from Craig Pratt hit the back of the net but the referee signalled play on.

Lye broke away and took the lead when Chris Harrison was left unmarked to score from eight yards.

Undeterred, Chaddesley continued the pressure with some superb individual performances, notably from Jamie Roberts, Matt Baynton and Ashley Philips.

In the second half, they played probably their best football of the season so far and dominated.

Chaddesley equalised when Vogel pounced on a half-hit Baynton shot and rammed the ball expertly home.

The visitors again had a goal disallowed when a Richard Burton effort was ruled out for a disputed offside decision.

Key defender Gavin Knight was injured in a midfield clash and in a rare home attack Dave Portnam shot home to give Lye the points.
