A NUMBER of players from Worcester Rugby Club's ladies section have been bidding for international selection after a series of trials.
In the senior squad, winger Nicola Crawford and hooker Nicola Goodwin were playing for the blue squad who overcame the maroon squad 32-30 in a trial match at Loughborough University.
Their team mates, number eight Jaine Lock and prop Mandy Palmer-Norrie, were playing for the maroon squad but fellow Worcester international scrum half Joanne Yapp was unable to play due to injury.
The trial finished off a tense weekend of fitness tests as all five Worcester players bid for a place in either the England Senior 22-woman squad to face Scotland in the first Six Nations game of 2002 on February 3 or the England A 22-woman squad to play Spain on January 19.
Worcester Ladies' next RFUW Premiership match is on January 6 when they travel to Saracens.
Worcester Ladies seconds travel to Hinckley on January 6 in Midlands Division Two.
n Worcester Wanderers face Old Griffinians in a North Midlands Two clash at Sixways on Saturday, kick off 2.15pm.
The players will also be donning their boots on Sunday when they face the star-studded Kings School Old Boys team at the King's School playing fields - kick off 1pm. Former Worcester stars David Merlin, Richard Tomlinson and Duncan Hughes are just some of the players involved in the festive friendly.
