100 years ago - August 31, 1901
Broadway: William Albert John Stanford, a labourer of Stanton, was summoned for riding a bicycle without a light at Broadway on August 5. Defendant pleaded guilty. PS Lewis said he saw the defendant on the Evesham Road without a light. He said defendant gave a false address and apologised the next day. Defendant said he had tried to keep the lamp alight but was unable to do so. He was fined 2s 6d and 7s 6d costs.
75 years ago - September 4, 1926
Evesham: The Rev R G Grose has been appointed as a non-collegiate to the Evesham Wesleyan Methodist Circuit. He will reside at Mickleton where official recognition services will be held on Thursday next. So far as Evesham is concerned, the newly appointed young minister will be "recognised" at the circuit rally on September 23.
50 years ago - September 1, 1951
Pershore: This year's Battle of Britain week observance will open on September 10, when Mr R De La Bere will be present at a flypast of various types of aircraft and a parade. Other events during the week are a whist drive, a dance and children's sports. A special remembrance service is to take place at Pershore Abbey on Sunday, with the laying of a wreath on the RAF war memorial in the town's cemetery.
25 years ago - September 2, 1976
Evesham: Despite almost two inches of rain that fell in the Vale of Evesham over the weekend - almost the average rainfall for the whole of August in a normal year - the drought continues.
It was the first rain to fall in the area for about five weeks. Mr N A Field, Evesham's weather expert, said: "The last appreciable fall was on July 20m, when we had about a quarter of an inch."
