TIM Langford is looking for his Stourport Swifts players to return to their previous high standards over the festive period.

Top scorer Lee Booth returns to the line-up for Saturday's Dr Martens Western Division game at home to fellow high-fliers Clevedon Town.

And Swifts boss Langford is looking for the perfect reply after the 4-1 defeat in their previous game at Weston last Tuesday.

He said: "I'm looking for a response from the players after the last performance which was unacceptable.

"The players should be staking their claim for a place because everybody will want to play against Redditch on New Year's Day and in the FA Trophy game with Chester.

"They need to pick up some confidence after Weston though they shouldn't be lacking in confidence as they know what they can do.

"The players have set their own standards and as long as we get them back, we can be pretty confident of playing anybody."

Langford has missed out on a swoop for Bilston Town midfielder Ryan Daley but is now targeting another Western Division player.

He explained: "Ryan has a few work commitments so it's understandable but I have another midfielder in mind who I will probably need to watch when I get the opportunity."

Swifts failed to get a fixture this week with Worcester Royal Infirmary Cup opponents Bromsgrove arranging a league match instead.

But the break gave Langford a chance to watch Trophy opposition Chester lose 2-0 to Southport on Saturday.

He admitted: "I was quite pleased with what I saw. As soon as the first goal went in, the crowd got on their backs and they didn't play with much confidence at all throughout.

"We have nothing to lose and if we compete with them in terms of working hard and play to our best, we will give them a game.

"We could do with getting some decent results under our belt before we go there though.

"We have Clevedon, Chippenham and Weston coming up who are all above us in the league, the local derby with Evesham and what our supporters might call a grudge match against Redditch."

Clevedon won 2-0 earlier in the season against Swifts but the Stourport side are a different proposition at Walshes Meadow.

Langford added: "We showed them a bit too much respect after they had come down from the Premier Division.

"But we have managed to find our feet since then and will hopefully have a great deal more about us than the last game. We have been playing well at home.

"Clevedon are very strong and I was impressed with their two forwards. But we are looking to compete first, get amongst them and earn the right to play."

Defender Asa Charlton will serve a one-match ban for five yellow cards when Swifts travel to Phil Mullen's Evesham on Boxing Day (11.30am).

Utility man Willie Dunn is back in training this week after his knee injury but may need loan matches to regain fitness.
