let's have more positive reporting of schools, please!
What possible help can it be to label a school as the worst in the county at maths? I am sure the teachers are doing the best they can with their students, but as usual this hard work is overlooked as everyone simply glances at the tables to see which school is number one.
The basic data contained in them takes no account of entry level or progress made. It can be the very schools at the so called bottom which have the best teachers, but no one can possibly know this if they just read the tables.
All of our teachers need praise and encouragement, not just those at the 'top' schools. Academic success isn't everything. I want my children to do well at their work, of course, but I don't want them to feel a failure because they didn't pass a test and made their school slip down to second place.
It would be nice to hear more about other aspects of school life. I don't just mean events or outings, how about the everyday things that are important to pupils, as well as parents. Perhaps you could consider visiting each school in the area and asking the children what they like best about their school?
All parents want to be proud of their children. Let the children show they can be proud of their school.
