BULL Allstars will head the Malvern Football League over the Christmas period after consolidating their position with a 4-1 victory over Talbot Head on Sunday.
For the majority of this encounter the teams were arguably evenly matched, although the difference came when Bull Allstars netted three times in a five-minute spell to settle the tie. Mark Toman hit the back of the net three times and was aided by David Zakotti, who added to his season's goal tally with another strike. Lee Manion added his name to the scoresheet for Talbot Head who remain in ninth position.
Club AC 30 continue to chase Bull Allstars and came away from Ledbury on Sunday with another three points, having defeated Brewery 4-1. Nick Bollen scored for Brewery as they returned to League action after a three-week absence but the home side couldn't stop Aaron Parr from scoring a hat-trick and Danny Morris knocking in the visitors fourth goal.
Club AC 30 are now 10 points behind the leaders with three games in hand and they will be hoping with the League's best defensive record they can move to within a point of Bull Allstars if they win those games in hand.
Bell Inn 98 and Old Bush Willie Thornes played out an 11-goal thriller at Bosbury and it was the home side who collected the points in this entertaining match 7-4, which keeps them in a credible fourth position.
In the other League encounter Interthornes entertained Morgan Aero 8 at Lower Howsell Road, and it was the home side who started the brighter of the two side with a few efforts on goal. Richard Bird however netted twice inside the opening 15 minutes to give Morgan Aero 8 the advantage.
Simon Rodway then snuck in his effort from a tight angle and netted another before the half-hour for Morgan Aero 8 before Andy Jones' lob over Davies in the Aero 8 goal gave Interthornes some hope. However a Jamie Boswell effort for the visitors minutes later ensured they took a 5-1 lead at the half-time interval.
In the second period and with Interthornes playing up the slope on a tacky pitch not conducive to passing football, they tactically added Martin Haron and S Wood to the side and they both helped Interthornes create a few chances
How they never scored is a summary of the their season so far and with only minutes of the game remaining substitute Chris Francis's volley from 20 yards lobbed the Interthornes goalkeeper and recorded a 6-1 victory for Morgan Aero 8. Marcus Spencley took Morgan's man of the match award for an outstanding performance at the back.
In the Under 18s Youth Division Rosebowl competition Malvern Town booked their place in the semi-finals with a 4-0 win away at Warndon Youth. Scoring all their goals in the opening 45 minutes were Andy Williams, Michael Cole and a John Fletcher double to set up a tie against Campden Town on Sunday 13th January 2002. In the other semi-final tie holders Tupsley Pegasus Juniors await the visit of Welland.
There are no scheduled League fixtures this Sunday (December 23) but teams will return to action on Sunday, December 30.
