WEST Malvern completed their best win of the season when they defeated Worcester League Saturday Division One leaders The Vine.
THE VINE 2, WEST MALVERN 3
Although forced to make numerous changes due to injury and players not available, the West shook The Vine by scoring in the first five minutes. From their first attack they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the penalty area and Andy Baxter blasted the ball home.
The Vine came back strongly and in the 40th minute drew level. A shot that stand-in keeper Will Hardy could only parry finished in the back of the net.
With the arrival of deputy keeper Matt Powell at half time, the West immediately substituted him and Will Hardy went back to his normal position of centre forward.
Within ten minutes the home side were back in front when Hardy created havoc in The Vine defence and Julian Walden crashed the ball home.
The West continued to put pressure on The Vine and once again it was Hardy who caused the problem beating three men in the box and crossing for Lee Tracey to side foot the ball home.
This stung The Vine into action and with ten minutes to go they reduced the arrears. Although they applied the pressure the West stood firm with Andy Pugh having an outstanding game at the back.
Tomorrow (Saturday) West Malvern, sponsored by Amey, play Pershore Manor, players report to ground 1.30pm.
