MALVERN Aikido Club recently gained two 1st Dan black belts at a British Ki Aikido Association seminar in Broadstairs, Kent earlier this month.
Malcolm Cowell and Jason Ryder achieved this grade after seven years hard work and the club's chief instructor, Ian Hollman, was also presented with his 3rd Dan after nearly 20 years hard work.
Aikido is a gentle but powerful martial art that uses the attackers' strength and weight against them, and utilises arm and wrist locks to throw the opponent. It is suitable for men and women of all sizes and abilities.
The club practice Monday night at the Wyche Institute, Malvern Wells, with a Wednesday evening planned for the New Year. Contact Sensei Ian Hollman on (01684) 561575.
