ADVENTUROUS youngsters in Worcestershire are being urged to put their sea legs to the test.
The Sail Training Association (STA) is seeking young people, aged 16 to 24, who are willing to take on the challenge of a lifetime.
STA runs two unique tall ships and organises regular voyages both in European waters and beyond.
To encourage more young people to try sailing, STA is offering to foot half the bill and can put people in touch with charities, which can also give financial support.
STA's Hereford and Worcester branch chairman, Tim Lunt, explained those taking part would become part of a crew, learn how to sail, keep the boat, clean, cook, navigate and keep watch.
Mr Lunt, of Pump House Lane, Hanbury, near Droitwich, is keen for youngsters to take part in the action-packed voyages.
"Candidates should expect to work hard, but you get to see the world, learn new skills and meet lots of new people," said the 65-year-old volunteer.
During the summer the seven day expeditions begin in the UK and travel around Europe.
The winter trips can be more exotic, exploring waters near the Canary Isles and West Indies, however this is more costly.
"Our tall ships costs millions to build and run," added Mr Lunt.
"The trip costs around £700 per person but, because we want people from all walks of life to try sailing, we make cash available."
The nautical adventures are one way of achieving the residential section of the Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award.
