MIRACLE baby Ross Anderson is looking forward to his first Christmas at home after being given a one per cent chance of survival.

Born three months premature, he weighed only 2lbs... the same as a bag of sugar.

His proud mum, 36-year-old Mandy went into labour at Worcester racecourse after the horse she had backed, Lucky Jim, won the first race.

As she jumped for joy her waters broke and Ross was on his way.

But he spent the first two months of his life in the special care baby unit at Birmingham City Hospital fighting for his life before being transferred to Ronkswood in Worcester.

"He only had a one per cent chance of survival," said Mandy, of Tunnel Hill, who had suffered previous miscarriages and had been warned she was likely to miscarry.

"Ross is now four-months old and he weighs about 10lbs so is doing really well. We're just delighted to have him home for Christmas. We have bought him an activity gym to play with and we're planning to spend the holidays with family and friends.

"It's such a magical time for us. It's just so wonderful to see Ross gazing at the flashing lights on the tree."

He also received his first letter from Santa Claus after his grandparents, Ve and Dave Chick, arranged for the note to come from Lapland.

Both Mandy and her husband Carl said they would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at Ronkswood and Birmingham, who gave them "a Christmas present money can't buy".
