AS a member of the Ronkswood Action Group, and also a member of the Independents, for the past three or more years I've been involved with the hospital issue from its conception through to the reality.
Regarding the unjustified claims made by Coun Geoff Williams at the planning meeting on December 13, the actions of a man who obviously supports New Labour PFI at any cost, I would point out that we have always acknowledged the need and supported the desire for a new hospital.
At monthly hospital board meetings, we have tirelessly debated the shortcomings on bed numbers and parking, and have always opposed the deal sanctioned by the previous New Labour council for the office blocks in front of the hospital.
This development flew in the face of the Local Plan, is over-developed, and is definitely under-provided with parking spaces, as is the new hospital.
The reality is that the hospital consortium which is about to receive more than £16m rent per year is failing to providing affordable homes for student nurses, enough parking for the staff, patients and visitors.
