KIDDERMINSTER Carolians were knocked off the top of Midlands Three West (North) by bottom side Leek after a shock 15-12 defeat.
There was little doubt that Leek deserved what was only their second win in 10 games, and KCs can have few complaints. There were times in the game when the home team looked to be getting into their stride but they never produced the goods.
They took the lead in the 12th minute with a good try by scrum half Ben Stirling following a pass from Ross Baxter. Stand off John Mounter converted.
On 28 minutes Leek scored a try as they had been threatening to do for some minutes.
With two minutes remaining of the first half a penalty kick gave them the lead at 8-7
KCs had one of those days when nothing would go right. They were below par in all departments and Leek could see two valuable league points dangling before them. In the 61st minute they went some way to realising their ambitions with their second try. They added the conversion to make it 15-7.
Kidderminster threw everything at them and scored a try just before the final whistle, but it was too little too late. Four kickable penalties had been missed and this was to cost them their place at the top of the table.
A match to forget and of no comfort to their supporters on a fiercely cold day.
