THE inconsistency that has plagued Evesham's season shows no sign of abating and it would appear that Phil Mullen is powerless to prevent it.
The only way the Common Road chief appears capable of arresting the slide is to bring in more new faces and, according to one senior squad member, that is what he will do if things don't improve rapidly.
The Evesham chief refused to name names but said after Saturday's defeat - a fifth match without victory: "Three of the guys are not pulling their weight at the moment and we're not going to win games like that."
"When some players had a bad time last season, the rest of the lads tended to pull them through but that's just not happening now.
"We've dominated the game today and lost 3-0 and it could have been worse - we've got to find someone who can put the goal in the net.
On a lighter note, Mullen concluded: "They'll probably go out and win on Wednesday (Boxing day) but who knows what they will do next weekend!"
The United manager didn't make any excuses about the pitch at Bedworth but a couple of players were far from happy.
"It wasn't fit from the start," said Andy Smith. "It was really bad in the first half under the stand and myself and Mark Wolsey were really struggling."
While Mullen refused to openly criticise his players, assistant Paul Davies was far from happy.
"When Phil changed the system late on you expect some discipline from the players - that just didn't happen," he moaned.
"We lost our discipline completely. It's still 11 against 11 but the lads further upfield didn't want to chase the ball and help out at the back. We were lucky we didn't concede a couple more. It was embarrassing."
United entertain Bilston on Saturday (3pm) - a match that is being sponsored by Danespeed of Bilston. The ball is being sponsored by Safebrook of Oldbury.
Next Tuesday afternoon Evesham visit Hales-owen Town for a New Year's Day fixture that kicks off at 3pm.
