DAMIEN Beattie's last action between the posts was a starring role in the FA Cup. Last Saturday's return in an Evesham jersey could hardly have been different.
The popular Australian goalkeeper boobed badly when he dropped a regulation catch and he could only watch on helplessly as his teammates again displayed their annoying consistency.
"I came out for the ball and just couldn't stop on the surface." He recalled. "What a way to come back but, hopefully, it will get better.
"Nothing's changed a lot. It looks like we're still mixing the good with the bad and today wasn't a good day."
Beattie (pictured) revealed the tale behind his return to Common Road, from where he left for Hinckley United two games into the season.
"After the cup match against Cheltenham, I told the manager that I would be late for training on Tuesday night. He said not to bother coming at all as he had signed another goalkeeper."
"The football side of the move was alright but I just didn't fit in with the lads right from the start," Beattie revealed.
The Australian could have gone to Shepshed but once Phil Mullen got in touch, he decided to return to Evesham.
"I got on really well with the lads last year. It was totally different to Hinckley and I'm glad to be back but not in these circumstances."
Beattie, who lives in Nottingham, revealed that he will be training twice a week at Ilkeston to save on travelling but he was set for an 8am start for yesterday's home clash with Stour-port Swifts.
