A SAFE haven for traumatised domestic violence victims has been put under new management.
The Droitwich Women's Refuge has cared for frightened women and children, who have become homeless because of domestic violence, since 1978.
But to improve services and cope with growing demand, the group has allowed Stonham Housing Association to take over the reins.
Volunteers originally ran the home, the location of which cannot be identified for safety reasons, but paid staff now play a key part and the complex management structure has become too much for the voluntary committee to handle.
The housing association, which has charity status and manages refuges and hostels across the country, has also taken responsibility for other refuges in Worcestershire.
Improving
"Staff and residents will benefit from the transfer and the refuge will be able to continue improving its services," said Dr Jenny Bulman, retiring refuge committee chairwoman.
"It has been good to meet and work with so many people whose compassion and concern has made a difference to the lives of hundreds of women and children."
The refuge cares for around 60 families each year and can help women look forward to a safer and more secure future.
It has five bedrooms and four paid employees. The centre welcomes any donations, including food, clothes, toys and furniture. For help or further information call 01905 797573.
