CHRISTMAS festivities in the village included two concerts performed at Powick Parish Hall by pupils of Powick Primary School. Junior pupils and also members of 1st Powick Brownies visited the Swan Theatre, Worcester for the performance of A Christmas Carol.
The village's own Christmas Carol - a concert of words and music - was held at Powick Parish Hall on Saturday evening. It included music and song, with Tom Wells' choir, Stephen Watkins on piano and a medley of songs (including Derek Stokes' solo).
The Christmas carol concert was held at St Peter's, Powick last Sunday morning when the choir from Powick Church joined the Parish Singers from Madresfield to lead the singing. The readings were read by members of the congregation including Peter Gedge, Jean Lean and Phillip Betts (from St James, Callow End), and Julia Davis, Reg Warden and Sue Jones from St Peter's. The choir, accompanied on organ by Lin Brown and conducted by Margaret Tarr, sang There was a silence in Bethlehem's fields and We have seen His star in the East. The church has been beautifully decorated for Christmas by a team of ladies.
Last Friday family and friends of the late Hugh Taylor gathered at St Peter's Church for his funeral. The service was conducted by Rev David Nichol with a reading by Thea Wild; the address given by nephew Donald Taylor and prayers led by nephew Rev Michael Taylor. Hugh Taylor lived in Powick for 50 years, working at Powick Hospital. He spent his last years in Solihull near his family. He was a member of the trustees of Powick Parish Hall and for many years held the key to the hall. He died peacefully at the age of 96 years.
The coffee morning at 17 Bramley Close, Colletts Green, raised £185.50 for the NSPCC. Chris Hipwell and Jill Bird wish to thank all who supported it.
