Among the visitors to a prestigious London show by Upper Welland artist Olwen Tarrant has been her local MP.
Sir Michael Spicer, Conservative MP for West Worcestershire, visited the exhibition by Olwen, the first female president of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters (ROI). Her exhibition ran alongside the organisation's annual show.
The two exhibitions, at the Mall Galleries, were opened by the former speaker of the House of Commons, Betty Boothroyd, who congratulated Olwen on becoming president.
Baroness Boothroyd said: "It took the ROI over 100 years to get round to it. It took the Commons more like 500 years to decide on a woman Speaker."
