CAPTAIN Carl Heeley has stressed Worcester City must grab back-to-back wins to re-ignite their Dr Martens Premier Division campaign.
City make the long trip to Dorset for tomorrow's clash with Weymouth (3pm) in the knowledge that they have not managed consecutive league wins since victories over Ilkeston Town and Hinckley United way back in August.
Heeley believes City's failure to capitalise on good individual wins has upset the momentum of their season, and is looking for them to build on their fine 4-0 success against Newport Isle of Wight with a win at the Terras.
"I think the important thing is that we get back-to-back wins. Too often this season we have won a game then undone all the good work and thrown it away by losing the next match," he said.
"If we can win at Weymouth we can close the gap to six points but obviously if they beat us then they'll be further ahead so the aim is to try and keep in touch.
"The thing with this league is that the top sides are all within three or four points of each other and are all taking points off each other and no one is running away with it.
"Most teams have lost five or six games and if teams, even those below us, can put a run together of eight or 10 games then they could push themselves right into contention."
Weymouth, who drew 3-3 at St George's Lane on the opening day of the season, stuck four past City in last year's corresponding fixture at the Wessex Stadium and manager John Barton has tipped them to be among the title challengers although they have suffered a dip in form recently.
The Terras' 2-1 Boxing Day victory against Tiverton Town was their first league win since beating Chelmsford City on November 17 and Heeley is confident they can be beaten.
"Four-nil flattered them last season and I would argue three of their goals were offside," said Heeley.
"Looking at their home record it is not very convincing and I believe they've lost three or four at home so may be we can take some heart from that.
"They are a similar side to ourselves and look as though they can score a lot of goals, though hopefully we've tightened up a bit since the opening day of the season."
Heeley also revealed the team had been boosted by the nature of the Newport win and the fact they kept a clean sheet.
"I thought we played some good football against Newport and beat them convincingly and kept a clean sheet which is important," he said.
"I think the defence can take something positive from that and the win has been great for morale and given everyone a lift."
Formcast: City to grab a point with a 1-1 draw.
