SKIPPER Carl Heeley has forged a reputation for being Worcester City's Mr Consistent and this season shows no signs of being any different.
Already he has managed to survive the injury hoodoo that has haunted most of his team-mates and he remains the only ever present performer this season.
Goals against Merthyr Tydfil and Belper Town have also illustrated his knack for grabbing vital goals and underline his importance to the club.
Now he has set his sights on helping City overcome their injury problems to put together a decent run in the Dr Martens Premier Division.
"John Barton told us after we were knocked out of the cups that we had 23 games left in the league programme to go for and although we won one and lost one since, we've got to try and put a run together and give it a good crack," he said.
In recent matches Heeley has linked up with loan signing Mark Blount and has been impressed with his new team-mate.
"I've known Mark for many years without playing on the same side and he is a very accomplished defender whose got decent ability on the ball and we seem to have clicked pretty well," he said.
"It's unfortunate for Marten Weir but he has been around long enough to know that he will get another chance.
"It's great to have competition for places and we know that if there are slips he could be back. It's just a shame there's not more competition for places further up the field."
Heeley is in his eighth season at St George's Lane and has no intention of playing for any other club as long as his fitness and luck hold out.
"As long as I am wanted at the club I'm quite happy to stay here and have no intentions of moving elsewhere.
"I understand I've got to keep performing well but fitness wise I feel 22 not 32 and fingers crossed I don't think that will be a problem for me. I've been quite fortunate in that respect and have managed to maintain my fitness and pace. Also as you get older and more experienced you probably play better football as well."
