Harriers should have been more than one goal ahead by half-time after missing a couple of good chances.
Hull's Alexander was booked for diving in the area on 28 minutes during a goalmouth scramble then Harriers almost made it two three minutes later with a well-crafted chance.
Henriksen released Larkin with a cracking through pass and the striker pulled the ball down before firing inches wide from the edge of the area.
A minute later, the visitor's Johnsson poked a low shot goalwards which keeper Brock dived to collect to his left.
Substitute Broughton shot too close to the Hull keeper on 34 minutes after another quick breakaway from the lightning Larkin down the left.
Larkin again raced clear soon after, outstripping full-back Petty onto a Williams long pass but his lob cleared the bar.
Greaves followed Alexander into referees Jordan's book on 39 minutes for dissent, the free-kick was pushed forward 10 yards and Appleby's set-piece was deflected away. Colin Larkin
