WORCESTER coach John Brain paid tribute to his players after the 33-12 victory over Moseley which keeps them in the promotion race.
Craig Chalmers, Chris Garrard, Alistair Murdoch, Nathan Carter and Jim Jenner ran in tries while Sateki Tuipulotu slotted four conversions in a one-sided affair at Sixways.
For Brain, though, it was a good comeback after their recent National One defeat at Exeter and sets them up for a title push in 2002.
"We tried to play a lot of rugby and the performance in the first half was very encouraging," he said. "We made some errors in the second half but, to be honest, I thought that was the only way they would score because we looked well organised.
"We played positive, attacking rugby. The first try was a big boost after four minutes. It was a charge down but it was very, very good pressure on the scrum which forced the hurried clearance."
Worcester led 28-5 at half time and after claiming all five points with the four tries, the second half was always likely to be an anti-climax. However, Brain was not overly concerned with the final 40 minutes.
"Jim Jenner scored a very good individual try in the second half which took the pressure off us a bit but we just ran out of numbers a little bit when we were trying to recycle the ball. It obviously gives us something to work on this week.
"The important thing is we've won. There is a saying that confidence is contagious. That goes with lack of confidence as well as this was a good win for us to build up that confidence. We haven't been playing in a confident manner lately and this result is a part of our rehabilitation from a sticky period. Hopefully, we can build on that for next week at Manchester."
Brain made changes to his backs with Sateki Tuipulotu reverting to full-back while Ben Hinshelwood switched to centre, replacing Duncan Roke. On the wing, Alistair Murdoch replaced Winston Stanley for his first league start of the season and Chris Garrard came back into the side impressively.
"The execution all round was better than it was against Exeter," added Brain. "Moseley are potentially a difficult side to beat but we're very happy to have maximum points. We had to think about the centre combinations. The combination of Yates and Roke has done a good job in certain games this season. However, we felt we were lacking fluency in the backs so we decided to change. Ben Hinshelwood has been very good for us this season and it's just a question of where to play him. Sateki went through a poor spell but he's come back and he's a lot more confident now. He had to deal with a fair few kicks in the game but looked very assured."
Brain was also delighted to have fly-half Craig Chalmers firing on all cylinders again after a season which has stalled so often through injury.
"Craig put his body on his line in defence and did a great job in attack as well," he said.
"We have some excellent fly halves at the club. However, when we've played our best rugby this season Craig has been stood at number 10. It's been very frustrating for him and for us that he hasn't been able to string games together. Today we had a settled half-back pairing and it showed."
