I AM beginning to think that Maurice Brett has really lost the plot with his latest letter to the Evening News (You Say, December 14).
Claiming vets are ignorant about foxes is more than a little over the top. What formal qualifications has Mr Brett got, vets are entitled to ask!
The constant fog of propaganda against hunting with dogs has really done some good, forcing several organisations to take a long hard look at the evidence and come off the fence about hunting.
The Kennel Club is against a ban and the National Canine Defence League is very concerned about a ban because of the impossible task of re-homing 20,000 hounds.
Bit-by-bit, all the so-called evidence against hunting has been chipped away by the truth. Mr Brett tells us that members of the dog family will not kill and eat one another.
In North America does he really believe that a hungry wolf will turn its nose up at a coyote or a fox for dinner?
We have even been told it is totally unnatural for a dog to hunt deer on Exmoor. Obviously nobody has explained this to the wild dogs of Africa and India who hunt similar prey over many miles.
For those of you who want to see a healthy and stable fox population, the choice is an easy one. Leave it to the farmers, gamekeepers and huntsmen. It is a far better idea than the whimsical Beatrix Potter theory that Mr Brett only ever seems to offer us.
