FIREWORKS at a New Year's celebration sparked the arrival of a little cracker to see in 2002.
Jade Channing had been seeing in the New Year with a firework display when little Brandon decided it was time to make his appearance.
The tot was one of three new arrivals at Worcester's maternity unit yesterday - a contrast to last year, when nursing staff delivered 11 babies on January 1.
Jade, aged 35, was taken to taken to Ronkswood Hospital as the festivities were coming to a head and gave birth to Brandon, her fourth son, who weighed 10lb 2oz, at 1.56am yesterday.
She said her new-born baby, who was due on Friday, December 21, was the best present she and partner Christopher Wheatley, 43, could have had for the New Year.
"He obviously decided he wanted to see the New Year in and we're delighted," said the mum, who lives in Albert Street, Droitwich.
"I realised he wasn't going to wait much longer while I was watching a firework show, so Christopher brought me to hospital.
"It was a very quick birth and we now have a great New Year's present.
"The rest of the family are looking forward to meeting their little brother."
Unlike Brandon, Gemma Holmes' little boy Morgan was right on time when she gave birth to him at 1.15am yesterday.
Proud parents Gemma, 20, and 21-year-old Ryan Probert, who live at Cherwell Close, Tolladine, Worcester, said they were delighted with the new addition to their life - if not a little overwhelmed.
"He was due yesterday and arrived yesterday, so he seems to be a good time keeper," said Gemma.
"We're both delighted to be starting the New Year with Morgan, he's absolutely wonderful."
Evesham couple Peter and Emma Hackley also became the proud parents of a 8lb 15oz New Year baby girl, who they have named Faith.
