KIDDERMINSTER Railway Museum is holding an open day where its photograph collection will be on display.
The museum collection of pictures at the Severn Valley Railway in Comberton Hill, is constantly expanding and covers mainly railway subjects from the days of steam, some stations, some people, some locomotives and some lineside views.
The earliest photograph in the collection is from the 1860s, but most of them date from the turn of the last century onwards.
There are views of locations all over the country but there are lots of pictures which should arouse strong local interest.
The collection contains photographs from some well-known railway photographers such as W Potter, VR Webster and RJ Leonard. It contains around 25,000 black and white photographs and around 10,000 colour slides.
The museum's policy is to make the collections available to those who want them and copies can be made.
Several dealers in photographs will be attending the open day.
The museum's trustees are actively encouraging people to deposit their railway photographs at the museum, so that records of the past are kept in a safe place and made available for the enjoyment of others.
The open day is due to start at 10am on Saturday, January 5, and run until 5pm. Entrance is free and more details are available on 01562 825316.
