INTREPID adventurer and binman John McBride will be flying off to Haiti in his latest adventure to some of the world's most dangerous places.
The Foreign Office has warned people to avoid Haiti unless on essential business, but this has acted as a clarion call to the man affectionately known as Bindiana Jones.
Over the past 20 years, Mr McBride has visited more than 101 countries and has been beaten up in Iran, thrown out of Sri Lanka, and robbed in countless war zones.
In the next few weeks, he will be flying from England changing planes in Miami before arriving in Jamaica where he will spend a week before crossing over to Cuba.
"Then I'm going to fly over to the Dominican Republic and while I am on the island I hope to cross over into Haiti," said the adventurer.
Haiti is the poorest country in the Americas and over the past 20 years has suffered from violence, dictatorship, political instability and drug-trafficking.
One per cent of the population owns half of the country' wealth and the average annual pay is $460.
Life expectancy for men is only 47 and women 51.
The Foreign Office classed it in the same category as Macedonia and Sierra Leone.
"I don't know how long I am going or how long I am staying there," said Mr McBride.
"If I get arrested I might be staying a bit longer than planned."
Last year, Mr McBride, of Chester Road South, Kidderminster, travelled through Guyana and Surinam.
"People say to me, 'where are you going next?' and I am in the situation where I am more or less obliged to go," he said.
"I am going to be 56 in January and people say I should be slowing down but I'm not slowing down.
"People ask why do I put myself at risk but that's just the way I am.
"There are times I feel afraid but you cannot give in to it. I cannot turn and run because I am afraid."
