Events of recent months have changed our world. The future is far from clear.
But then so it was in 1940 when at an age of 16 years, I and many others young and old were given rifles and bayonets to await the Nazi invaders who were only just across the English Channel.
Our country came out of that dark hour and I am sure that we will do so from the world's current dangers.
Redditch is seeing changes too. The council is beginning the process of setting up its new leader and cabinet structure.
Council has more resources than for many years which, if carefully invested, not squandered, will give us a better Redditch through and beyond 2002.
If I am permitted one political comment it is to remember 18 years of national vandalism and neglect do take longer than five years to repair. Be patient.
Happy New Year.
