KINGS Norton RFC captain Mark Waudby will be looking over his shoulder after fellow strugglers Stourport recorded a shock win at Christmas.

While Kings were going down 29-24 to Coventry Welsh, Stourport with only two previous wins under their belt, were beating second placed Earlsdon 23-15.

The result means Stourport closed the gap on third from bottom Kings to one point.

And with Stourport's points difference of -17 comparing favourably with Norton's -118, another reverse could see Kings drop into the bottom two.

Kings skipper Mark Waudby said the game should never have gone ahead on a frozen surface.

The Hopwood side lifted spirits with a 26-7 friendly win over near neighbours Five Ways Old Edwardians on Boxing Day and visited Midlands Three West South side Aston OE at the weekend.

Kings visit North Midlands Two outfit Aldridge on Saturday (ko 2.15pm) in another friendly before rejoining their relegation scrap at home to Berkswell and Balsall.
