Evesham United 3, Bilston Town 1
THE elements relented to allow Evesham to record their first win in six matches and a first home success since October 23.
Club secretary Mike Peplow counted down the action that brought welcome relief to all at Common Road.
Seven minutes: Richard Leadbeater, who led the line well, had his shot blocked by Bilston keeper Simon Bryan. Phil Preedy, following up, then saw his shot cleared off the line by Quentin Townsend.
28 (1-0): Bilston left back David Read's back pass from fully 40 yards bounced over the head of Bryan and into the net.
60: Charlie Blakemore, with the Evesham goal at his mercy, headed over Read's left wing cross.
67 (1-1): United's defence failed to clear and the ball bobbled around in the area and ballooned up for former Evesham striker Lee Bullimore to head past Damien Beattie from close-range.
68 (2-1): Straight from the kick-off, United regained the lead as top scorer Preedy drilled in a low drive with the outside of his left foot from 15 yards for his eighth of the season.
75 (3-1): Shaun Cunnington, who replaced Steve McCartan, played a corner into the path of Mark Wolsey who scored with a fierce shot through a crowded goalmouth from the edge of the box.
86: Substitute Shaun Pratt lobbed straight at Bryan with only the keeper to beat.
Pep talk!: Beattie - Very little to do. Smith - Came into his own in the second half with several good runs and crosses. Parmenter - Average. Caught out several times in second half. Lacked pace. Clark and Powell - Very little got past. Both won everything in the air. Cunnington (Pratt) - Took some good free-kicks and corners. Tired near the end. Nice touch on the ball. Wolsey - Star man. Worked hard and scored a good goal. Taylor - Battled hard. Good in the air. Got stuck in. Leadbeater - Looked hungry and never stopped trying. Could easily have scored on a couple of occasions. One or two nice touches and flick-ons. Lutz - Average. Kept possession and played simple ball. Preedy - Dangerous, especially in second half. Pace and trickery a constant threat down the left. Subs not used, McCartan, Mullen. Attendance: 108.
